The first phones were heavy and bulky. They were available in a wide range of colors, provided the color was black.

Only after years did dial phones with any design taste begin to appear, in a cream-white color.

There were families who got tired of the monochromatic color of the phone, and bought themselves a "phone cover". It was a form of a dress to a phone that they wore on the device, like the little sweaters that today's Poles wear their poodle dogs on. The coating for the phone was knitted from fabric or velvet, in a variety of colors and shades, and to bring the kitsch to its climax there were families who would match the color of the coating to the color of the wallpaper.

At that time, when you just picked up the phone, you were already approached with a grievance: "... how much do you talk? It costs a fortune !!! ..." In some of the houses you could find a "phone lock" on the phone. It was a small lock that would fit on the dial, lock it and not allow unauthorized use of the phone by the children or neighbors or the sub-tenant. The key was kept carefully, in the bundle of keys of the landlords. We kids overcame the lock by acquiring the skill of dialing by quickly tapping the number on the phone cradle buttons, it worked great, sometimes we were wrong in the number and got to know girls that way and it also turned out to be an interesting affair.
